Content & Connection

Content & Connection

Why Do You Create Content?

Connection should be the goal, whether you write a newsletter for your coaching business, create YouTube videos to share your expertise, or make stunning slide posts on LinkedIn.

This doesn't mean it has to be the end-goal of everything you do. However, when you get purposeful with building Connection into the content you create, it will resonate more with your audience, increase the possibility of engagement, and further your reach on whatever platform you're on.

So... How Do I Do That?

★Understand Your Audience

Go from simply posting your expertise to framing it in a way that relates to what your target audience needs help with. At a high level, you may decide on what to talk about based on what you know your audience is looking for. But you can also share insights they don't even know they need by framing them in ways that will resonate because you know them so well.

Make It Human

Go beyond spouting facts and tactics. Be purposeful with layering in human elements like inspiration, humor, and stories. Sometimes it's as simple as articulating a pain point and its solution in a way your audience has felt, but never been able to put into words. That will form a Connection with you in their mind like no simple "how-to" post ever could.

New Ideas Are Gold

Connection isn't always about you and the audience directly. It can be about connecting them to new ideas and unique ways of approaching their business or how they market it. This is another layer of Connection that makes you a resource in the eyes of your ideal clients.

Connecting Others

Building on the idea of being a resource to your audience, find ways to connect them to each other. You can do this in the content you create by highlighting someone in a post or sharing their ideas in a video, which forms a potential Connection between them and your audience. You can take this a step further and connect two people who you think should know each other and tag them in the content you create. Use the same motivation and structure you'd use in a private message introducing people and do it in public. This gives each of them more attention and potential Connection.

And ... Go!

In your journey as a content creator and entrepreneur overall, build levels of Connection into every area you can. It makes the work itself more meaningful to you and those who consume it, as well as leading to more "human" interactions as you build your presence on different platforms and grow your business.

Well said, Jason. I have found that understanding my audience has created a stronger bridge of connection than anything else I could do or say. When we take a genuine interest in other people, and we show them we actually care, real connection happens organically.
