Contemporary Portfolios for Sale August 18th
I’m thrilled and honored Leonard Auction has been entrusted to sell artworks from the collection of Dr. & Mrs. Christopher Graf of the Woodlot Gallery in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. A definite highlight of the collection are the portfolios. There are three, including assemblages by Richard Anuszkiewicz, Allen Ruppersberg, and Landfall Press luminaries. ?The Anuszkiewicz is amazing. It’s the “Inward Eye” serigraph portfolio from 1970, pencil signed of course, and complete with the 10 original prints plus a bonus print that’s individually signed. The ?incorporation of text by William Blake is the icing on the cake. It’s a feast for the eyes and the mind that invites repeated indulgence. Then there’s “The Top Ten Historical Similarities (and differences) Between Prints and Photographs” portfolio by Allen Ruppersberg, 1970. It contains 10 signed lithographs layered with color and digital elements. I find this construct fascinating because it keeps my eyes moving…searching…delving to discover insight and meaning. Finally, there’s the 1975 etching portfolio from Landfall Press . It’s a well rounded group of contemporary etchings with aquatint, all signed, including works by Christo & Jeanne Claude, Claes Oldenburg, Phillip Pearlstein, William Allan, Robert Cottingham, and William Wiley.
