Contemporary Hida Furniture Based on 1,000-Year Old Tradition on Display at Japan House Los Angeles
It is really breathtaking to experience a piece of modern woodwork that has over 1,000 years of history to create a piece of furniture that engages all five senses and promotes connection with the deep forests of Japan. The Hida exhibition that runs through mid-April -- at the Japan House Los Angeles gallery on the 2nd floor of the Hollywood & Highland complex -- showcases masterpiece furniture designs developed by Hida Sangyo in collaboration with world class contemporary designers including Enzo Mari and Sori Yanagi.
The Hida tradition promotes that all parts of trees felled for craft be use and that reforestation be implemented consciously and with love, honoring Hida's relationship with forest, time, craft and human needs.
