CONTAINER CORRIDOR ANNUAL RAIL MAINTENANCE SHUTDOWN
Transnet Freight Rail
Transnet is the largest and most crucial part of the freight logistics chain that delivers goods within South Africa.
In pursuit of operational efficiency to achieve customer service excellence, the Container Corridor embarked on a ten (10) days annual rail maintenance shutdown from 06th -15th February 2024. The shutdown maintenance projects are scheduled to take place in the following Infrastructure Maintenance depots; Isando, Vereeniging, Heidelberg, Ladysmith, Durban and TNPA operational areas.
The maintenance shutdown will focus on the following areas:
? Ballast screening – 5km
? Ballast regulating – 155km
? Ballast tamping – 105km
? Drain cleaning – 3km
? Sleeper replacement - 230ea
? Skidmarks repairs – 333ea
? Rail offloading and replacement – 1,32km
? Cross over maintenance – 24ea
? Substation maintenance – 30ea
? Formation rehabilitation – 0,95km
? Tree felling – 1250ea
? Tiger wire replacement – 2,4km
? ABC cable replacement – 201m
? OHTE maintenance – 23 km
? Installation of apparatus case – 20ea
? Installation of point machine - 4ea
? Installation of optic fibre – 1km
? High sites maintenance – 20ea
? Tunnel communication system installation – 9,33km
