Consuming versus creating.
My co-founder, Nicole Osibodu and I had a fascinating conversation the other day with a colleague from Canva (Haute Dokimazo's preferred graphic design solution) about creation versus consumption. She mentioned that she had recently watched a Ted talk on the topic, and learned that creation activates a very different part of the brain than passively consuming content. I spent about 20 minutes scouring the internet, looking for this Ted talk to no avail. Then I spent another 10 minutes looking for articles on science of the brain in creation mode versus consumption mode.
Then I stopped. And I laughed. How productive was that 30 minute exercise of internet consumption, when what I really wanted to do was create something. This whole rabbit hole came about because I wanted to write a LinkedIn article about the conversation we'd had! So I stopped. This is me stopping. This is me CREATING. I have headphones on, listening to "Beats to Think To" on Spotify, and am typing like a madwoman, deeply inspired by the connection I just made of this topic to Haute Dokimazo.
We created Haute Dokimazo because of our desire to no longer passively consume other people's content. We created Haute Dokimazo because our brains feel ON FIRE when we're having a deep, helpful, solution-focused conversation with other people. We are inspired by action, by helping, by solving, and we have seen that other people are, too.
Think about your normal ride on an airplane.... you do one of two things: CONSUME content (reading, watching, listening), or CREATE content (type emails, create PowerPoints, write or type things, or make personal connections by talking to your seatmates). How different do you feel when you get off the plane having chosen one of these over the other? Sure, sometimes you feel relaxed from reading a great novel, and sometimes you feel stressed from attempting to create while suffering questionable wifi, but overall, I'm betting you feel more energized and satisfied when you exit a plane ride having had conversations or productivity.
That's the theory we want to test on Haute Dokimazo Secret Family Reunion's plane ride. You'll be on a wifi-less plan, so you will be forced to CREATE (or read a book). Knowing that the rest of the plane is filled with fascinating, inspiring, and amazing people, you will get to crowdsource (CREATE) the content for the entire conference while on the plane. You will get to play, talk, interact, and engage all along the ride. You will have time to work, sleep, eat, and read. And when we land at our secret international location, we want to know how this revolutionary plane ride experience felt.
To continue the week with a spirit of creation, we will take the content that we co-created on the plane and turn it into 4 days of active problem-solving, creating solutions and ensuring that every participant leaves the trip with real, actionable answers to their business, marketing, or event challenges.
It is our intent that this will be the first industry conference that you leave feeling productive, renewed, refreshed, and energized, and not stressed about all the work that piled up while you were out. You will not be taking 5 days off to consume while the emails pile up. You will be taking 5 days to create. To produce. To solve. To do.
