The Consultant's Dilemma: Build for Lifestyle or Exit

The Clash hit spanned two generations.

First with the release of “Should I Stay or Should I Go” in 1982, then again, with the re-release in 1991 Which hit the charts AGAIN!

That track often runs through my head…especially when discussing business exits.

Because the question "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" often holds consulting businesses in paralysis.

The Consultant's Dilemma - Build for Lifestyle or Exit

"Should I build a lifestyle business?? If so, I can’t make it too big or it will become overwhelming, right?"

A bunch of myths there.

You can absolutely build for LIFESTYLE or EXIT.

We’ve helped clients do both.

Consistent, High-Income Lifestyle Businesses that focus on TIME and FLEXIBILITY.

AND

Successful Consulting Businesses that run WITHOUT the founder.

Sometimes the founders sell and sometimes they sit on a board while the business mostly runs itself.

BOTH WORK.

But until you decide which one you want to build it’ll slow you down.

I’ve seen smart consultants hesitate, slow down, and sometimes even stall.

But once you’ve decided, 3 things will grow a successful consulting business fast.

  1. Client Flow - You have a consistent flow of clients raising their hands to work with your business.
  2. Outcome Expertise - You're not just smart. Your?business gets results for clients with real measurable outcomes.
  3. An Authority Brand - You are well-positioned and respected by the?market you want to work with.?

We call this model a 'Select Consulting Business' and it’s the framework that gives you the most freedom and flexibility to SELECT your END GAME.

– A Lifestyle Practice where you work when you want.

OR

– The Profitable Enterprise that runs without you.

For the undecided, a consulting business can be a cruel mistress.

“It's always tease, tease, tease You're happy when I'm on my knees One day it's fine, and next it's black So if you want me off your back Well, come on and let me know Should I stay, or should I go?”

Once you’ve made that binary choice…your focus becomes sharper, your actions more definite and the rest gets easier.

So will you stay or will you go?

I’ll leave that choice to you.

By the way, I’m releasing a “How to Grow a Successful Consulting Business Flowchart” tomorrow.

If you want a copy, just let me know.
