Construction Viz and Dynamic Relational Matrices (DRM)
What the heck are Dynamic Relational Matrices (DRM)?
DRM is a technology that Lydon Solutions designed and built to address the challenge that most content management systems, including out of the box SharePoint, have around metadata. Metadata is information that you add to a record when you save/edit a document. It allows you to easily find records that you are looking for in place of adding documents into folders (folders have many limitations and are generally discouraged as a means of storing documents).
Most systems involve a 1:1 relationship with the document and its meta data, i.e. Document X assigned to project 1. With DRM, we changed the paradigm by providing the ability to assign a one to many or many to many relationship between the documents and metadata, i.e. Document X to project 1, 2, 3 or Document X, Y, Z to project 1, 2, 3.
To put this in perspective, instead of having to go to each document properties and assign metadata one by one, which can take significant time and is error prone, you can now do this all in one step. Simply drop off documents and use DRM to assign related metadata all in one step.
We built this functionality into our Project Tracker App where we can manage thousands of projects and all their related activities. We’ve seen huge gains in productivity in the areas of permit management, environmental mitigation plans, work plans, closeout checklists, contracts, and inspection reports that were uploaded and assigned to hundreds of projects, all at the same time.
Drag and drop as many files as needed. Search and filter on project type, city, county, etc. In this transmission utility project example, select the projects (Towers) that apply and click Save.
All the projects (Towers), are now related to that document. Any one of those Towers will include the same document.
