Construction of POWERGRID Vishram Sadan at King George Medical University (KGMU) for the attendants of patients admitted in the hospital for treatment

POWERGRID provided financial assistance of Rs 12.89 Crore in 2 phases for the construction of 208 bedded Vishram Sadan near Trauma Centre inside the campus of KGMU.

Need Assessment: About 8000 patients come for treatment in KGMU per day on an average.

The patients who are required to be admitted are shifted to the respective wards. But there is no such facility for the attendants of the patients who are sometimes forced to sleep on the floor wherever they find space inside the hospital premises.

Starting Date: September 2016?????????????????????????????????????????????????????Completion Date: July 2020?

The Construction has been completed in two phases:

Phase I: Construction of Basement, Ground Floor, First Floor & Second Floor consisting of dormitories having 142 beds in total.

It was inaugurated on 25 December 2018 by then Hon’ble Home Minister, Sh Rajnath Singh.

Furnishing of Phase I of Vishram Sadan was also done by POWERGRID with the supply of Beds, Mattress, Bed Sheets, Pillows, Lockers, Benches, Work Station, Chair and Tables.

The first and second floors are being used as Quarantine Centre since June this year for Doctors engaged in the COVID-19 Treatment ward.

Phase II: Construction 3rd and 4th floor has been completed in July 2020 with 34 rooms having attached toilets, 2 Dormitories and a total of 66 beds. ??

Beneficiaries: Lakhs of patients which admitted annually in KGMU along with their attendants are expected to get benefitted by the construction of Vishram Sadan. The attendants can have meals in the cafeteria and may also stay overnight if the treatment of the patient get extended for days.

Impact: At present KGMU is a COVID-19 treatment hospital, so number of patients admitted in KGMU for treatment of other diseases has decreased considerably. But even in these circumstances the facilities of the Vishram Sadan are being utilized as per the requirement.

During Lockdown Period in April-May the Cafeteria in the Basement was used to prepare meals to be provided to general public.?
