Construction Management Students Organise Workshop with John O'Shaughnessy of Clancy Construction

John O'Shaughnessy (Managing Director of Clancy Construction) delivered a 3 hour workshop to students on WIT's new BSc in Construction Site Management today.

As part of their management module, the students were required to work as a team to organise a Construction Management workshop with industry leader, John O'Shaughnessy. The discussion covered various aspects of interest including John's background, career path & motivations; his views on where the Irish construction industry is at present and where it is going into the future, including government investment, skills shortages, the role of technology such as Building Information Modelling, sustainability, regulation and contracts.


The student's are studying on a part-time basis, whilst continuing to work in busy site management roles in industry. In this regard, John commended the group for their commitment to life-long learning and spoke about the importance of setting career goals and challenging yourself to get outside of your comfort zone. The students engaged in what was an extremely thoughtful discussion with John and gained an invaluable insight into the challenges encountered in Construction Management. In concluding the workshop, the students thanked John for this time and contributions to the workshop. They also noted their thanks to Ronan O'Brien and the South East Branch of the Construction Industry Federation for their support in facilitating the workshop.
