Construction is failing?
Congratulations to HAWCE on their ballsy subject matter for the meeting on January 8th.
I've served the construction industry for over 25 years and I've dealt with some very talented people. I would guess that some of these people could trace their roots back to their Victorian construction forefathers. After all they certainly knew how to put up buildings then.
Aside from some in the industry who want to get rich quickly, the problem does not lie with the construction companies themselves in my opinion. It's more a case of a decline in investment in proper building control and the need for most of us to have the cheapest job possible.
Until we start spending as much on the core quality of the building as we do on the aesthetics and environmental considerations, (which often only add to the fire risk), as is currently the case, we won't make any progress.

7 年The most common issue if I'm honest is electrical contractors using them as pre installed cable trays! I have asked a few and their response is always “don't see what your winging about, air can still get through” but commonly come across pieces of wood etc placed by maintenance men ??

7 年2nd picture is worse than just the cable tie, it should be set in the slab or braced and fire stopped around the body of the damper casing as per DW145

7 年Hi Mark Thank you very much for this article! Would it be possible to get your pictures of the fire dampers? I would love to use them in one of my presentations. Best regards Stefan
