Construction approved for Collierville Firehouse 6

The construction contract of Firehouse 6 was approved at the December 11, 2023, Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting marking a significant milestone in improving the Town's emergency response capabilities. The approved contract, totaling $7,637,600, encompasses the base bid plus alternate additions; funding for the firehouse was approved in the FY2024 budget.

The Town has not opened a new firehouse since 2001, which was Firehouse 5 on South Houston Levee Road. In 22 years, the Town’s population increased by 21,000 residents and the Town saw significant growth in the southern portion of Collierville including the addition of Collierville High School.

?

Spanning an expansive 15,937 square feet, the new firehouse will be strategically situated on Shelby Drive, directly across from Collierville High School. Inspired by the architectural elements of the high school, the Firehouse will boast a distinctive barrel roof over the apparatus bay and a Collierville Dragon adorning the building's fa?ade.

?

Preparation for construction will involve substantial dirt work, including the replacement of soil beneath the foundation and elevation adjustments, with provisions made within the original contract. Additionally, the Town has plans to establish a park adjacent to the Firehouse, complementing the community-centric approach of this project.

?

Zellner Construction, the appointed contractor, has received the Notice of Award Contract and is expected to begin construction soon; an official start date is to be determined. The firehouse design encompasses impressive features, including three full-length drive-through bays, bi-fold bay doors, heated bay floors, and a range of specialized rooms and amenities dedicated to firefighter wellness, storage, and emergency response readiness.

?

Chief John Selberg extended appreciation to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen for their unwavering support throughout the project's proposal and approval phases. He acknowledged Assistant Chief Mark King for exemplary leadership in steering the project, along with Assistant Chief Paul Witt and Fire Marshal Todd Johnson for their pivotal contributions to the station's design.

?

Anticipated to span approximately 18 months for completion, Firehouse 6 will serve as a symbol of pride for the community and the Fire Department, a testament to Collierville's commitment to public safety.
