Constructing storytelling for reporting

Lately I am working a lot on my ability to write high level corporate mails to report on projects designed to reach various levels of management outlines above me.
These mails need a more or less fixed structure, but building a good storytelling around them is complicated, and if you access articles or training on how to do it, they explain many things, but not how to articulate the story or how to give it structure according to the content because the casuistry is very high.
So when there is nothing that convinces you, you have to build your own framework.
So... how to build a structure and narrative? I have started using a series of 22 points that will surely grow over time to organize the structure of the mail or document.
Of course not all of them go, for each specific case there will be very specific points, but I only just have to choose the order of them (17, 1, 3, 8, 9, etc ...). This allows me to construct a clear storytelling very quickly and above all, in a very simple way.
Now you just need to add a couple of sentences to each point - and no more - and your ultra-corporate reporting mail will be ready.
Ah, the list of points is sure to help you:
1. Why it matters
2. The big picture
3. What’s happening
4. Details needed
5. Between the lines
6. What they’re saying
7. What’s next
8. Going deeper

17. The intrigue
18. Flashback
19. The impact

3 个月Carlos, this is amazing. For me, everything depends on the context and how your organisations likes communication. When I worked in the creative industries, it was okay to give context + big picture and, then, talk about the facts. But, when I worked at the Mayor of London, I had to go straight to the point and it was hard to find the right structure. Personally, I always like to think about how this affects the big picture and the goals we - as a team/organisation - would like to achieve.
