Construct a happier day by scheduling your activities wisely.

I have a talent search firm that assists businesses to succeed at doing whatever they aspire for by helping them find the right talent as per their needs. Our process includes a long list of activities such as client communication, various steps for requirement processing, interview coordination, salary negotiations, selection / joining, MIS etc. Even though I enjoy most of the activities that we do, still not all days result in the same level of happiness. In order to deconstruct this situation I decided to write my own Happiness journal for a few days. 

In my Happiness Journal I first created a list of activities that I need to perform personally. In front of each activity I wrote down it’s happiness score out of 10. This helped me identify the activities that bring me more happiness and those which bring me less. Remember Happiness is not just pleasure. Rather we experience it when pleasure is accompanied with a sense of purpose.

Once I had the list, I could easily find out that there were some activities that I simply did not enjoy doing as much as some others. Out of the ones which brought me less happiness (or caused unhappiness), I decided to scrap or delegate, whichever I could. Now my list included those activities which either made me happy or the ones which I have to perform no matter how I feel about them. 

Next step included scheduling important yet non-pleasurable activities (like preparing reports etc.) in such a way that it will always be sandwiched between two such activities that score high on the happiness scale.

This simple exercise has now made my day look much brighter & happier than before without compromising on the work done. You can try this too.
