It's really easy to overlook the importance of analysing benefits within a project. There's always so much going on (that’s half the fun!), and it can be difficult to see the bigger picture. However, by analysing benefits consistently across projects is key if you want your organisation to have a clear idea of what its projects are achieving and how they're contributing towards wider goals—and that's why I'm passionate about getting this right!
It is important to know where you are going. This helps with getting there and making effective decisions along the way. This allows you to get the right people involved early.
In order to identify and analyse benefits, you need to engage with stakeholders who will be affected by your project. You should be clear about what you want from them before engaging with them so that they can give their full attention when they do come together. For example, if there is a particular piece of information or data that would help you make a decision, ask for it early on so everyone knows what's expected at meetings and sessions later on in your process.
In order to analyse the benefit of a project, you need to use the right methods and tools. Some clients have an idea of what methods and tools they want you to use, so open the floor to your stakeholders and Project Management Team.
