Be Consistent

One of the things I have struggled with consistently my whole life is, ironically, being consistent.
I do get people comment sometimes to say that they perceive me to be but goodness me it’s taken some effort and it’s something I have to work on every day. Which in itself is a challenge because that is being consistent! haha!
Why does it matter though?
The short of it is that it simply does.
If you want to lose weight or get fit, it’s the small daily actions that you do every day that makes this happen. Sure, you can do a blitz and see a sudden shift but if you want it to be a longterm thing it has to be long term consistency.
If you want to boost your sales or nurture a positive relationship with your audience, whether that be by email, social media or something else, it’s the regular communication and consistent message that is the catalyst.
I’ve noticed that it’s a bit like a muscle and the more we practice the easier it is to be consistent.
No matter what though it requires effort on our part.
Don’t do yourself the disservice of thinking that it’s easier for someone else. That does nothing to help you be better at it and if anything ends up being a crux that holds you back even more.
The grass is never greener.
No one achieves consistency without effort.
Sure, some people are more dispositioned to do repetitive things in a way that looks effortless but they still have to put take action, they have just made it a habit and don’t make excuses.
So what can you do to tackle this when, like me, it feels like an uphill struggle?
Tools, hacks and outsourcing!
I have a few strategies to help me with as much of this side of things as I can, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to get half the stuff I do done.
I have apps and a lovely VA that help me with my marketing content so that I can focus on batch writing it and then leave them to make sure it goes out when it needs to. I post stuff too of course but the only way I can commit to it regularly is to schedule in advance.
I have reminders in my planner and calendar to make sure I remember to do stuff and I even have team members who’s job it is to remind me to do things so I don’t procrastinate or forget all together.
I batch things so that I can do it when it suits me rather than be pressured to do it all the time. Social media posts and blogs are a great example because I can plan out the content and then create it in one or a few goes. If I have to write every day it makes the process lots harder and is a great example of bad productivity - batching work wonders.
There are a few things that even I can’t outsource or hack, daily exercises being one of those things. A nemesis of mine for as long as I can remember. For these I have to get into a habit. I must create some form of ritual to help keep me on track.
Usually it’s set times for things, yet another thing I seem to want to fight against for some reason best known to my stubborn unconscious mind! My current example is skipping. My current schedule is: Get up, walk the dogs, feed the dogs and skip for 5 mins or so while they’re eating. Then clear up and have my brekkie before starting the day. I also try to do my yoga too and I can happily admit that when I get into a routine of times I do this the likelihood of it happing increases tenfold.
None of this is rocket science.
You’re likely reading this and thinking ‘that’s pretty obvious’, but the point is, are you actually doing anything about it?
I read stuff all the time where I think “I know that already” but the difference is between knowledge and implementation. And don’t we all know that!
So, what is it that you need to get more consistent with?
Why not choose one thing and create a strategy to make it happen?
Stick with it for a while before you try to add anything else into the mix and go from there. Layer by layer creating the life and work that you dream of.
Big love
