Consistency is the Key ….is really important …It’s not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives, but what we do consistently …part 243

Your aim is absolutely correct. Consistency is the key to success, but the problem is that you’re unable to keep up with it.

What is Consistency?

Consistency means focusing on the task at hand in the present moment while maintaining a long term vision.

When we do something regularly, we get feedback. This feedback helps us to change course when required.

Consistency, in other words, is therefore all about repetition. It’s about repeating the same actions (habits and rituals) over and over again; gaining feedback from these actions and adjusting them accordingly to help stay on track as we work towards our goal.

Being a student myself, I know that it is very difficult to keep up with your words and aims. Even if you have a test on Monday and you decide to start study on Wednesday, you know that you’ll keep procrastinating until Sunday and just revise in rushed manner.

This is not at all a good way to study and will definitely affect your studying pattern, scores and life in the coming years.

To keep with such an attitude, I myself have developed some tips that I feel you should yourself look into :

Try developing a time table and stick according to it.

Do not make it something you cannot achieve. Set SMART (Specific. Measurable. Achievable. Realistic. Timed ) goals while you create the time table.

For initiation, if you’re at home and have some adult, then tell them to remind you each day to study. Tell them no matter what you’re doing, they come up to you and remind you to get to study. If you have a friend, tell him to do the same. It’s only a period of time. Believe me, if you keep up this for a while, you’ll yourself become organised and consistent.

Keep reminding yourself of your own personal motive to study.

There is a reason why everyone wants to study. A reason why everyone wants to work hard and achieve. Maybe you’re trying to proof yourself to someone, or maybe you’re trying to achieve something. Keep reminding yourself of that very goal in life. So that you will never lose motivation.

Also, think of the people who are in this with you.

Keep away from the distractions.

I understand that life is meant to be full of fun and you want to live every second of it, but life is more than that. Fun is just an aspect of it. Don’t you want to look at other perspective. Therefore, work hard and try to restrict yourself from always wasting time.

If your laptop distracts you, keep it away for an hour. If your phone distracts you, give it someone for an hour. If your WIFI is a distraction, then for god’s sake, disconnect it for some time.

Thank you …Think of the hard work your parents are putting in you just to see you achieve your goals. Don’t compete with others, compete with yourself. You’re you, not somebody else. Unlike others, you have a purpose in your life and believe me, you’ll be able to achieve it.

The only reason why I am telling you this is because I have gone through what you’re going through now.

You can’t go to the gym for 10 hours one day and get into shape. But, if you go to the gym for 20 minutes every day, then you will absolutely get in shape.

If you go to the dentist twice per year and that’s all you do, then you’re teeth will fall out. You have to brush your teeth twice every day.

But what does brushing your teeth for just 2 minutes do? The answer is nothing unless you do it every morning and every night. It may be hard to measure the effect of a single brushing, but we know 100% that it matters and it works.

I know with 100% certainty that if you workout every day then you will get in shape. I know with 100% certainty that if you eat right every single day then you will be a healthier person.

Want to add word or two?

Going to the gym for 10 hours is an act of intensity, but it’s the acts of consistency that actually do nothing in the short run that make the biggest difference in the long run. The essence of creating high-quality character is consistent actions coupled with accumulation.

Doing the right thing even when nobody is watching may do nothing in the short run, but when the effects of this small act compound every day over a long period of time, it really means something; it’s what separates people of the utmost character, and who are regarded by others as such, from average people.

Your comment ….?

Buying flowers on Valentines Day and remembering birthdays is not what makes people fall in love, it’s the little things the other person does on a daily basis that make you fall in love.

And once you’re in shape, healthy, or have fallen in love, you have to keep doing these little things consistently to at least maintain what you have.

Nobody goes to the gym once and is fit for life. Heck, nobody goes to the gym every day for 5 years and is fit for life after that.

Once you’re married, it’s not endgame; you can’t just stop doing the things that made your partner fall in love in the first place. The marriage will fail if this happens.

?Patience: Patience is the key to consistency: we have to be patient and focus our efforts diligently in one direction in order to produce quality, lasting, tangible results. One of the main reasons people don’t stick with what they’re doing, whatever it might be, is simply impatience. ? A good example of this is in the world of diet. People try something for a week or two and, impatient for results, immediately run off to the next interesting thing that they see in an ad or on a website. ? Belief: Likewise, failing to believe in what you’re doing will definitely kill your consistency in doing it. Or, to look at it another way, make you much more consistent at NOT doing it. ? Your consistency, or lack thereof, in what you do is a good indication of your true belief about it. ? Value: The perceived value for?a particular thing, which results from the action you need to take should be taken into consideration. Everything that we do is generally motivated by one of two things: fear and desire. In either case, you take action based on perceived value: running from a bear has the value of saving your life, while running as a form of running has the value of maintaining your health. It is a natural tendency that if we fail to see some kind of return from whatever we’re doing, we are automatically demotivated and as a result, our consistency suffers. What makes consistency difficult? We all are aware that maintaining consistency is an essential thing but all of us, at some point or the other, struggle to be consistent in what we do. Or in other words, even though the concept of staying consistent seems very simple on the surface, most people struggle with this idea. They find it difficult to stay consistent because there are just too many distractions. People are simply not focused, committed or disciplined enough to stick with something in the short-term for long-term results. Today, we look for instant gratification and in the want of that, we fail to acknowledge that some things do take time. When we don’t get immediate results, we don’t see the point in continuing those actions over the long run. But consistency isn’t about obtaining quick results, rather it’s about maintaining incremental progress over a period of time.
