Consistency is misunderstood.
People hear the word and automatically think, hard work.
It could not be further from the truth.
If there is one thing that consistency is, it is one of the simplest things to adopt. It’s also one of the hardest things to embrace.
One key difference between those who go on to build big things and those who don’t is consistency.
Consistency can be described as repeated activity over time—something that you do over time, every single day.
What consistency is not is “every now and then”—that's the opposite.
So why is it important to do, and why is it hard for people to adapt?
Consistency is important because when you do something every single day, you not only start programming your mind and body that the act is important, prioritising it, but you are also building your skill in the activity, which will lead to mastery if you continue it.
Why is it challenging for people to adopt? It is challenging because it will require you to show up every day—when you feel like it, when you don’t when you are excited, and when you are not. Those who truly believe in what they are doing will continue.
Consistency has been part of my success and has helped me establish habits that have accelerated my business. When you build consistency as part of your business strategy, it all changes for you.
5 Tips to Build Consistency in Your Business
Define what you want to achieve with specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals. Clear goals give you a roadmap to follow and make it easier to stay focused.
Create a Routine:
Develop daily and weekly routines that incorporate tasks essential to your business growth. Whether it’s dedicating time to marketing, customer engagement, or product development, a routine helps you stay on track.
Use tools like journals, planners, or digital apps to monitor your progress. Tracking helps you see how far you’ve come and identifies areas where you might need to adjust your efforts.
Stay Accountable:
Find an accountability partner or join a mastermind group. Sharing your goals and progress with others provides motivation and support, making it easier to stay consistent.
Celebrate Small Wins:
Acknowledge and celebrate your achievements, no matter how small. Celebrating wins keeps you motivated and reinforces the positive habits you’re building.
Understanding Compounding
Consistency leads to the compounding effect, where small, repeated efforts accumulate and produce significant results over time. Here’s how it works:
Imagine each effort as a brick. Individually, they may seem insignificant, but together, they build a strong, enduring structure. This is the power of consistency and compounding—stacking your efforts to create lasting impact.
When you get out of your own way and start to embrace the power of this one thing, watch the shifts begin to manifest into your reality.
