Considering leaving your job?
Do you find yourself working longer and longer hours or maybe it is your boss or manager that are driving you crazy? Are you finding that you are under paid when you consider all the work and tasks that you are required to do in your current position? Is the commute taking too many hours out of your day as traffic and public transport challenges seem to get worse instead of better?
For some people, recognition is more important than rewards and feeling part of team can be another important element in overall job satisfaction. Do you have freedom in your current role? Do you choose what you work on and when you work on it? Are you in a healthy work environment and does the companies practices and culture feel like a good fit for you?
If you are dissatisfied in your current job you may have already chosen to leave the only question remaining is when? For most people lining up the next job or career opportunity is important to make sure there are no major gaps in income while changing job.
Consider asking yourself the following questions
- Why are you leaving your current job?
- Are you going into a similar job in a different company?
- Are you looking to change career altogether?
- What elements must your new employer have to improve your work satisfaction?
- If you simply make more money but the work and environment is the same, will this make you any happier?
- Have you clearly outlined what you need in a new job or from a new company?
Looking for a new job with a new company can take time to make sure that you get it right. Sometimes the job that you really want doesn’t land right for you and sometimes you have to keep looking and moving forward to get to the right job.
Don’t forget that a lot of employers are very interested in employee retention and if some of your grievances at your current employer can be resolved easily it may simply be a matter of having a conversation about some of the items of concern. If this is not possible and you absolutely want to move job and company then it really is time to dust off the CV and update it with your current and most relevant experience.
Working with a professional recruitment company can help as they work closely with you to understand exactly what you’re looking for and what is important to you. A professional recruitment company also has in-depth relationships with their clients and a much greater understanding of the jobs that are on offer with their clients due to this. Finally a good recruiter can position you the candidate effectively with the potential new employer, which can make all the difference sometimes.
