The coffee was lukewarm, but that didn't matter. She took another sip anyway, eyes glazing over the computer screen. Another soulless Monday morning stretching ahead at this corporate IT job she once loved.
Oh, she still enjoyed the meat and potatoes of the work itself - sleuthing out technical issues, implementing new solutions, keeping everything running seamlessly. That drove her and gave her pride. But lately, a suffocating feeling of being undervalued had set in.
The pay wasn't bad, but it definitely didn't match her decade of specialised experience and skills. And there was nowhere for her to level up on the technical side without diverging into a management path. Just...no. Herding people and processes? Not her forte nor her happy place.
Then over the weekend, an ephiphany in the form of social media posts about the thriving freelance IT world. These self-employed tech warriors got to stay hands-on, hustling from contract to exciting contract. And they commanded sky-high rates their employed counterparts could only dream of.
The idea was both terrifying and electrifying. Ditching the security of permanent work, dealing with finances and dry spells alone...yet being the master of her own destiny. Charging what she was truly worth without corporate constraints.
She knew her technical skills were more than marketable. The risk could pay off huge. Change was no longer a vague idea, but an inevitable force barreling her way...
