Considerations for Planning & Design of a Campus

This is where my head was at on December 31, 2021.

Considerations for Planning & Design of a Campus?

  • Utilizing IA Technology and Machine Learning
  • Developing Digital Twins for Facilities Management as well as Planning & Design
  • Maximize barrier-free accessibility
  • Identify stakeholders in the development of a Master Plan process
  • Develop a Master Plan that aligns with University’s Vision
  • Strength our campus identity (at multiple levels: global, national, state, University, colleges, etc.)
  • Align physical campus with academic strategic plan
  • Consider infrastructure improvements that will facilitate higher education of next 20-30 years
  • Diversity and inclusion and strengthening individual identity and freedom of expression and religion (less government interference)
  • Create a framework for flexibility to adapt to changing environment
  • Develop a Master Plan that aligns with our target enrollment
  • Community connectivity, engagement and outreach
  • Local neighborhoods
  • Larger cities
  • Business alliances
  • Auxiliary services – Is there a way to engage local community/businesses?
  • P3 (partnerships)
  • Innovation hub
  • Consider all aspects of campus life
  • Trends for undergraduate and graduate students
  • Commuter experience vs On-Campus experience
  • Athletics program
  • Library/research – information commons
  • Create spaces that advance research programs
  • Address “poste-pandemic” classroom learning
  • Expand graduate programs and associated services to include housing, study spaces, meeting rooms, etc.
  • Promote S.T.E.M. related programs without compromising the humanities (S.T.E.A.M., the A is for the Arts)
  • Explore internal/external factors (risk/challenges vs. strengths/rewards)
  • Data driven decision making
  • Create neighborhood districts that promote interdisciplinary interactions while maintaining a feeling of identity
  • Explore pedestrian/vehicle conflicts and drop off zones
  • Campus safety plan (vehicle egress)
  • Sustainability – Help university identify our environmental priorities; promote energy/water efficiency, reduced carbon footprint, recycled content, minimize waste
  • Walkability – Create a framework to maximize the reduction of obstacles and challenges; maximize equity
  • Assist University with analyzing building assessment and deferred maintenance report by Others
  • Prioritization of space needs and campus improvements/expansion
  • Develop a framework to define how we can maximize space utilization on campus
  • Virtual/Community
  • Assist University with review of forensic financial analysis report by Others
  • Health and Wellness
  • Alumni/Donor opportunities
