Distractions lie all around and goals start fading away, and eventually, we lose a track of ourselves. Did this happen to you at some point of your life? It has happened with me and I am sure that I am not alone to have had such experiences. What came to my rescue? Self-awareness and self-reflection brought me back to my goals. The time we invest in comparing our success, our life trajectories with others, that same time needs to be invested in taking the meaningful pause, in self-introspection, in evaluation of our feelings, responses and reactions. Let’s delve deeper into how it works.
- From Questions To Clarity : “What brings me contentment?”; “What’s more fulfilling for me?”; “What are my weaknesses?”; “What are my strengths and how can I utilize them in full swing?”; “What are my core beliefs?” These thought-provoking questions have helped me to gain a clear picture of my identity and goals.
- A Set Routine For Self-Reflection: We don’t get extra hours. But, extracting some time from our busy schedules and devoting it to self-introspection is a valuable gift to yourself. Writing a journal, a walk in nature, some meditation, each day helps you reconnect with your soul. Gradually, this habit contributes to prioritizing your personal growth.
- Non-Judgmental and Mindful Observation: I started paying attention to my thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and during the course of that, I kept judgment at a distance. I had to notice patterns and recurring themes in my thoughts and feelings, and consider how they influenced my actions and decisions. Mindful observation allows you to develop a deeper understanding of yourself and your inner core.
- The Reflective Journal Hack: I personally prefer writing down my thoughts, feelings, and experiences regularly. My journal is my secret space for self-introspection and self-discovery. I write down my achievements, both small and big, the challenges that popped up, and areas for growth. This hack allows me to set goals for personal development. Have you tried it? How was your experience?
- Constructive Feedback: Self-reflection alone?will not yield the best results.??You need to be open to feedback from trusted friends, family members, or mentors. It gives you an extrinsic perspective on yourself. There’s no harm in seeking constructive feedback - both positive and constructive criticism. External feedback can provide in-depth insights that you might have overlooked during self-reflection.
Self-Reflection is a practice that has the power to transform your mindset. It will gift you with holistic growth and contentment. Growth begins from within. If you are aware about your intrinsic self, your core values, your response during the highs and low, it leads to personal development. Bigger goals won’t make you apprehensive as you can break it down into smaller milestones, into achievable goals. What is your perspective on self-reflection? Let me know your views.
And, if my thoughts resonate with yours, share them ahead.
