Conscious Enrollment
Peter Kistemaker, CFA, Investment Manager

Discretionary Portfolio Managers have a slightly different role from Investment Advisors.
A Portfolio Manager is entrusted to make investing decisions on your behalf. An Investment Advisor, is someone who provides advice but leaves the decision up to you.
As a result the relationship between a Portfolio Manager and their clients is a fiduciary one. This means there is a high legal standard to put client interests first. Investment advisors in contrast only need to show their recommendations are 'suitable'.
This key distinction drives many other differences in how your money is invested. Some of those differences may be of benefit to you.
Unlike big financial institutions, our services aren't for everyone. I find that it works well to have a brief exploratory chat to examine your current situation. From there I will try to add value or insight into the best way forward for you.
There really is no pressure, that is why I like to think of this as conscious enrollment. It will be clear if investing with us is beneficial for you or if a different path would serve you better.
It is my goal to develop high-quality, enduring relationships. It is of vital importance to ensure our vision is in alignment with our clients. I look forward to chatting with many of you in the near future.
