The connectivity ecosystem: How we can cultivate digital innovation together

Much like a thriving ecosystem, where every element plays a critical role, the collaboration with our customers ensures that industries, businesses, and end users can adapt, grow, and thrive in the age of connectivity.

At the heart of this ecosystem are our customers, showcased through several customer success stories. In this edition of the newsletter, we spotlight some of thelatest ones - Telstra , 遠傳電信 , and Swisscom — each collaborating with us to create and cultivate the right conditions for sustainable innovation. Let’s explore how each of them contributes to this dynamic connectivity ecosystem.

Telstra and Ericsson: The sunlight that powers growth

Just as sunlight fuels life in an ecosystem, our collaboration with Telstra creating cutting-edge fronthaul solutions for 5G services is driving high performance and laying the foundation for future network advancements.

In late 2022, Telstra became the first to deploy Ericsson’s industry-leading packet fronthaul technology commercially. This milestone not only reaffirmed Telstra’s commitment to providing an exceptional 5G experience but also set a global benchmark for innovation in mobile networks. Telstra’s Radio Access Network (RAN) consists of a complex array of antennas, radios, frequencies, and spectrum techniques, making a full-scale overhaul both costly and impractical.

Telstra required a product that could bring the efficiency and flexibility benefits of packet fronthaul to existing CPRI-based radios. Together, we developed the Ericsson Router 6673, an entirely new product enabling fronthaul (radio to baseband interface) packetization for all available FDD radios at a mobile site from legacy CPRI standard to the evolved eCPRI standard. This is achieved using unique Ericsson Silicon, integrating Ericsson RAN Compute (baseband) technology into a router for the first time and enabling best-in-class processing of the entire RAN stack.

FarEasTone and Ericsson: The roots that strengthen the ecosystem

Beneath the surface of a thriving and sustainable ecosystem lies a network of roots that provide stability and nourishment. In Taiwan, our partnership with FarEasTone embodies this, serving as a strong and sustainable foundation essential for long-term growth.

Far EasTone faced the challenge shared by most networks service providers, they needed to enhance energy efficiency while reducing environmental impact, without any negative impact on network performance. The operator’s goal was to provide the energy needed at peak times, reducing it when demand is lower with an optimized network.

What was our solution? To deploy Ericsson’s Service Continuity AI app suite, which helped Far EasTone to make a 25 percent saving on their daily RAN energy consumption, with no adverse impact on network performance.

The AI app suite uses machine learning and artificial intelligence to respond dynamically to the network’s energy needs, solving problems before they even occur and optimizing energy consumption in real time.

By focusing on digital transformation and enhanced customer experience, FarEasTone and Ericsson are laying the groundwork for Taiwan’s digital infrastructure.

Our partnership ensures that the Taiwan’s digital ecosystem remains sustainable, adaptable, and prepared to meet the needs of an ever-evolving landscape.

Swisscom and Ericsson: Connectivity that flows like water

Just as water flows effortlessly to reach every corner, adapting to its environment, Swisscom and Ericsson are delivering seamless indoor connectivity across Switzerland.

A hotel in the heart of one of Switzerland’s major cities needed a high-performance indoor connectivity experience for their staff and guests, requiring a single, discreet, multioperator solution that could also support service providers with different vendors.

Our partnership made this possible. Like water reaching every space, we deployed an easy-to-implement system that ensured the best indoor coverage throughout the hotel. The solution also significantly reduced costs and power consumption compared to the legacy passive DAS system.

Connecting the future through collaboration

The strength of any ecosystem lies in the ability to adapt, innovate, and collaborate. These are examples of how we continue to cultivate a connected world where businesses, industries, and consumers can thrive. We are set to deliver advanced 5G solutions, improve energy efficiency with AI-driven applications, and enhance connectivity experiences for customers like Telstra, FarEasTone, and Swisscom.
