Connection and Support: A United World

I received a call from my friend Susen yesterday. She was checking in on me. At that moment, I realized how amazing it was to hear from her as well as hearing her voice. It just felt good talking to my upbeat and consistently kind friend and colleague. I also heard from Michelle, another friend, and amazing human being. We chatted for a bit and supported each other with positivity, realism, optimism, and just plain laughter.
I believe many people are concerned, confused, and uncertain about the future. We keep hearing things are closing down, the lines at grocery stores and warehouse stores are incredibly long and running out of supplies – the level of frustration coupled with anxiety is taking over. And for good reason. We are worried about those we love and care for. Our jobs, livelihoods, and connections to other human beings are in disruption at the moment. And I believe that is the key phrase, “in the moment.” Yes, it’s scary and confusing out there right now, and this too shall pass in time. This is not the first time we have been in a tough, challenging, and scary situation. Remember 911 or the H1N1. Every time we have made it through and learned to adapt to the changing circumstances and grown from the experience – it has made us stronger – we do have resilience. We do together! No one is alone, though being stuck in our homes may feel like that as most are looking for connection.
I say, reach out to each other via social media, text or, better yet, call each other. Talk about the good times, embrace successes, create laughter, and be there for one another. Any differences we have do not matter. What truly matters is we are all in this together with a willingness to inspire each other, help each other, including those we don't even know and hold each other up during this time. To be united across the world.
