Connection: Make it about them not you?
Bill Newgent
Coach & Advisor | I guide purpose-driven men and women who, despite outward success, seek guidance reconnecting with their worth, inner peace, and fulfillment.
In every interaction, personal and profession, I recommend coming from a place of what value can I bring to the person in front of me.
The tendency is all to often to be about the business of focusing on ourselves or our business... i.e. " what can I get, aaaand I'm done here". I have been guilty of this myself.
If you have done this it doesn't mean you are a bad person. It just means your are not being effective because you are not truly connecting with the person in front of you. You don't have to become life long pals.
You do get to exchange value with each other. Even if that exchange is only to acknowledge you are with a person of equal value, that in his or her own way, has as much value in the world as you.
Ask them about them. If you get a glimpse of who they are it becomes easy to bring value to your new relationship.
From there possibility opens up. It can lead to amazing opportunities or a new person you know. Either way it's win win.
Who doesn't want a win? What could be bad or wrong with everyone winning?
I hope you will join with me in always striving to create wins.
Be well!!
