Connection is key ???

It's easy to forget how?transformative deep human-to-human connection can be. In our modern lives, we can become to alienated from others and ourselves?despite being in close proximity.?There's nothing lonelier than feeling alone in the midst of a bustling city or workplace. In many work contexts, deep interpersonal connection can feel inappropriate so we stay on the surface and simply "get the?job done." The truth, however, is that deeper connection leads to better outcomes.?When people feel psychological safety, they're more likely to try new things, innovate, address issues openly,?and find solutions that serve everyone.?
I was reminded of this at our first Connect 1-Day Leadership Retreat on May 4.?Because I spend my time immersed in depth with others, I can forget how huge the shift can feel for people who feel alone or shy or stuck. One attendee reflected on the experience:
"Being the first time for me, one big shift I felt was related to the sense of liberation in being part of an open and unbiased environment for reflection,?being vulnerable with others but most importantly being honest with myself."
This reminded me of a big breakthrough I had many years ago when I read that community-feeling stems from connection with yourself. Loneliness is often the result of not wanting to spend time in your own company, or rather, in the company of the thoughts pinging around in your head. When you're honest with yourself and curious about your thoughts and behaviours (with self-compassion and kindness), this can open you up to deeper connection with others as well.?
Another participant mentioned that what he loved the most about the retreat was "The power of inspiration and reflection that really only happens when participating in these experiences. The sense of safety and liberation in being honest and vulnerable."
There is freedom in identifying your patterns and behaviours, in taking full responsibility for yourself and how you respond to situations. There's freedom in stepping away from the drama, gossip and?other unconscious ways many people relate to each other — and into deeper connection, presence and thoughtfulness. Having a day to practice these shifts together was a gift for me as the facilitator and a joy to share and witness.?
...and we get to do it again next month, with a focus on eliminating drama!?

If you're in or near Montreal and want to spend a day in the Eastern Townships with a group of smart, driven, kind, curious leaders, I invite you to apply to join us. There is an option for a few people to stay overnight at my co-facilitator, Julian Giacomelli's beautiful property in Frelighsburg, so we'll have a leisurely evening of reflection, connection and relaxation after the day's workshops and activities have concluded.?
If you're not in Montreal or won't be able to join us I invite you to take some time to really notice how you're connecting with yourself and with others. Are you conscious in your interactions? Are you taking full responsibility for how you show up?
I know how much this awareness shifts my relationships, and I hope you feel some beautiful release and freedom in the noticing.?
Have a beautiful week!
Love always,?
LJ
P.S.?We're inviting 2 new group members to join the Thrive Entrepreneur Group in Montreal. If you're a founder, entrepreneur or consultant looking for deep ongoing community, I'd love to see if you're a fit for our group.
