Connection and Community: The Cadence Approach Spotlight

Connection and Community: The Cadence Approach Spotlight

I hope you’re well and have had a good month in July so far. It has been a busy few weeks for me throughout June and into July, sharing the principles and stories of the?Cadence Approach?with companies such as Vax, Nestle, Asana, Surrey Cricket, Britvic and the University of Birmingham.?

I also had a reunion with Clare, who I ran my first marathon with in 2013. You might remember the?story! We caught up and picked up exactly where we’d left off in many ways, despite the 10-year gap in which we’d been doing our own thing. The bond of training for, and then running our first marathon together was still there though.?You really are creating a special relationship when you do something like that together.?

Is there anyone you’ve done something challenging with that you’ve fallen out of contact with…. If so, why not get in touch and reunite??

Community is everything, and social relationships are more important to us than perhaps we know. Let us know who you decide to reunite with – tag me on social media using @leannespencerkeynote on?LinkedIn,?Instagram?or?Facebook.

All the very best for now,

Leanne

In this episode, Cath and Colin discuss?the fact that burnout rates are increasing with one survey reporting that 72% of people often feel used up at the end of the day, an increase of 12% in the last 2 years. They explore why some organisations are allowing this to happen, and the effects of burnout.

12 Stages of Burnout

Burnout is becoming a serious threat to the welfare of teams and to the culture of the companies in which they work. One difficulty in managing burnout is knowing what to look out for; what are the signs, passive and active, of burnout and when does stress become more serious?

There are 12 stages of burnout as identified through the work of psychologists Gail North and Herbert Freudenberger. We talk through each of those 12 stages so you’ll know what to look for in yourself, your teams and those around you. We share our guide to burnout prevention and recovery aligned with the 12 stages of burnout.

What I'm Reading

The long win book cover

The Long Win: The Search for a Better Way to Succeed.

Cath Bishop is also the author of a great book, The Long Win, the 2nd edition was just recently published in May 2024. The book explores our cultural obsession with winning and how it affects the way we approach work, sport, education and beyond. Through a combination of my own personal story and others’ stories, research and interviews I look at some of the consequences of a win-at-all-costs approach and propose a new way of redefining success.

What I Recommend

These are plant-based, gluten-free ready-to-drink meals, for when you're not able to cook or have very limited food options available (for example when?travelling). Whilst they're a substitute rather than a replacement for a proper meal, they're a handy thing to keep in your bag to ensure you get proper nutrition.

They contain up to 22g of plant-based protein, all 26 essential vitamins and minerals and 172 health benefits (uk.huel.com).
