Connecting through Art at SIWA Cliffs

SIWA Group puts an immense value on culture, arts and creatives both in Indonesia and globally, through working with creatives and creators across a wide range of medium we foster communication connection and ultimately further our zeal for innovation.

At our project in Lombok, SIWA Cliffs we are working on a number of collectives and collaborations with local artists and overseas artists, combining different mediums and implementing into the DNA of our uniquely fabulous destination.

In collaboration with Satine Interiors we have commissioned Devina Anderson to create a series of artworks for the SIWA Cliffs wellness resort and club in Lombok, Indonesia.

Artist Statement

Freedom is the name of this series of paintings. The work continues a lifelong preoccupation and passion for the sea and its surrounding environment, involving an exploration of colour and textural brush strokes with oil paint to create contemporary artwork.

The textural qualities and mark-making create gestures and movement on the canvas. These marks express my deep passion for the sea, beaches, landscape and the cultural heritage of the people of Indonesia.

On my numerous trips to Indonesia and Lombok, I have always been totally mesmerised by its extraordinary beauty and tranquillity. The feeling of total freedom is intoxicating. Through these canvases I have tried to recreate these feelings with each layer of paint taking you further into the canvas. Thus allowing you to release your thoughts and emotions and experience this absolute freedom and the endless beauty of this spectacular paradise.

An Evolving Journey

Devina’s paintings are held in both public and private collections throughout Australia and represented internationally in North America South East Asia.

The work is an ongoing journey spanning a career of four decades. Devina has created a number of series during this time and working in the styles of Abstraction, Modernism and currently Abstract Expressionism.

Her paintings are inspired by her journey of life experiences. The purpose of the work is to create an emotional journey that has inspired her and through this to reach out to others so they too can have their own journey.

Each painting expresses the power and complexity of human emotion through colour and textural qualities. By using brushes and pallet knife techniques Devina has created a multitude of visual expressive layers. Each layer of paint represents another journey, allowing the mind to wander to another place of contemplation, translation and interpretation.
