Connecting to Purpose at Work
SNP Communications
Searching the world for the good people, and helping them make their truth persuasive.
Yes, high-performing teams get results, that’s what makes them high-performing (Duh!). But, internally, a key characteristic that sets them apart is their deep connection to purpose and meaning. They know why their work matters and because of that, they’re engaged and motivated.?
But how do you help your team (and let’s be real yourself) connect to the “why?”?
It comes down to these five actions:
1. Clarify your team's purpose.
Clearly communicate why your team exists and what you are working towards. A motivated team understands the larger picture and the impact they make.
2. Connect their work to a larger mission.
For example, if you work for a nonprofit organization, you can connect your team's work to the organization's mission of making a positive impact in the community. If you’re a B2B or B2C Business, connect your team’s work to the problem their solving for your customers and the impact on their day-to-day.

3. Create a positive work environment.
Make sure your team members feel valued, respected, and supported. Encourage open communication, collaboration, and celebrate successes. And of course, energize your team.
4. Provide opportunities for growth and development.
Getting to learn new skills and grow their careers will help your team members feel engaged and motivated.
5. And most importantly, lead by example.
You set the tone for your team. You model the behaviors and attitudes you want to see in your team.
With this roadmap in hand, sit down and create one action you’ll take for each step to connect your team to the why and help them be the high performers you know they can be.?
