For 60 years, PHI has played an essential role in improving health, equity and wellness by generating new research, centering community voices, and launching and scaling what works. Over the last few days, PHI has been exploring how we have impacted millions of people, creating lasting change that will continue to impact communities for generations to come with insights from our PHI:60 Impact Report. For today's?final mailing, we focus on connecting and partnering across public health.

We all have a role to play in public health, and intentional collaboration allows every partner to bring their unique capacities and expertise. PHI’s nimble, responsive infrastructure and deep connections extend the reach of our partners. We work across communities, government, philanthropy, and other sectors like healthcare and community development, which gives us the capacity to connect on-the-ground work in communities all the way across to high-level policy change. PHI also provides technical assistance, creates opportunities for shared learning, creativity and collaboration, and connects partners to information, tools and resources to strengthen their work in advancing health and racial equity.?Our PHI:60 Impact Report shares impact stories that lift up successful strategies and best practices for connecting and partnering across public health, including:

Report: Elevating Latino Experiences & Voices in News About Racial Equity: PHI’s Berkeley Media Studies Group partnered with?UnidosUS for a?2023 study which?revealed that less than 6% of news about racism and racial equity referenced Latinos—who constitute nearly 20% of all Americans and over 40% of all people of color in the U.S. The report, which includes actionable recommendations for journalists, community advocates and others, was covered by national and local media outlets including?NBC News, as well as?Latino-focused publications such as?BELatina,?Salud America!, along with?Philanthropy News Digest. Local CA Coalitions Address?Overdose Crisis: More than forty coalitions are part of the California Overdose Prevention Network (COPN), led by PHI's Center for Health Leadership and?Impact, which are working in communities throughout the state to prevent substance use addictions, manage pain safely for patients, treat addiction and stop overdose deaths.?COPN is the largest overdose prevention network in the country, with active coalitions serving 85% of California’s 39 million people. Coalition impacts in 2022-2023 include distributing 24,000 fentanyl test strips throughout one local community; partnering with youth on?school policies; and more. Learn more about COPN?→

Tool: Informing Healthier Communities with Actionable Data Mapping: Community groups, philanthropy, local?government agencies and other partners?are using the?California Healthy Places Index—a powerful mapping, data and policy platform created by PHI's Public Health Alliance of Southern California—to identify and prioritize health promoting programs and investments in neighborhoods that need it most.
