Connecting with me on LinkedIn

Connecting with me on LinkedIn

I’ve been consciously trying to connect with more people the last few months.

This isn’t just to build up my network on social media but to actually know who I am connected to. This has been further inspired by a brilliant lady called Sarah Le-Fevre who has written a similar blog to this in which she asks her network to engage with her on a human level.?

And so, inspired by her, I want to do the same. A network is not intended to be a Poekmon 'gotta catch em all' vibe - it’s there so we can all help each other out. But I can’t do that if I don’t know who you are, what you do or what you’d like to have more of!?

Therefore, I wanted to set out how I can help you (outside of my paid work) and what I’m asking for from the people I meet. This doesn’t have to be an in-return thing, it’s a project to get to know you more and actually have a quality network of people who can connect on a deeper level and make each other stronger.

So let’s kick it off!

What you can ask me for:?

  • An opinion on a public-facing profile - these matter! You need to get as many eyes on them as possible and so I’m happy to take a look (and I might ask you to do the same).

  • A playful 15 minute brainstorm - I find games fascinating and there’s many ways we can tap into gamification of many things. Whatever you’re stuck on, let’s have a quick chat and see what ideas we can generate.?

  • A 20 minute online coffee about how I became a coach - it’s a saturated market and there’s lot’s of us out there but it’s also an incredibly rewarding line of work, if you have questions, get in touch.?

  • A 20 minute online coffee about being a Portfolio Professional - a lot more people are wanting to take the leap these days but many things (apart from finances) stop people from finding out if it’s really for them. Let’s talk about being a Portfolio Professional and what you want.

  • An endorsement of a skill I’ve experienced with you - pretty straight forward, if you’re looking for a LinkedIn boost, let me know and I’ll happily endorse you for the skills I know you’ve got!

  • A review of the work we’ve done together (on LinkedIn or elsewhere) - reviews, feedback and testimonials, we all know how valuable they are and I am happy to take the time to give you one (and maybe ask for one in return).

  • A blog post in my newsletter, socials and/or site (around these topics) - If you’ve got a burning topic that you want to write about but you’re not sure where to post it, I’d love to collaborate with you on getting it out in the world.?

  • Female and wanting to go to an event but you're nervous about going alone? If you're looking for a buddy for an event in London that sounds interesting or cool but you don’t want to go alone (assuming we've spoken before), let me know. I’m headed to some networking drinks with a lady I met on a Slack channel and I’m already really excited by the prospect of building bridges with not just them but the others who are there as a result of us building each other up.?

And in case there’s something I haven’t thought of, I am a Career Coach, Workshop Host, play-inspired portfolio professional so feel free to get in touch with an ask or request that isn’t on here that you are curious about.

And what about what I’m looking for? Well if you’re looking to thank me, boost me or simply do a random act of kindness, here is what I’m looking for from my network of wonderful humans:?

  • A skill that you're working on that you think could be relevant. Sometimes just taking that first step and trying something out can be the beginning of something life-changing. If you think you have something I want and you want a guinea pig to try it out, let me know.
  • A review of the work we’ve done together - as I said above, these can speak volumes, we rarely buy anything these days without a level of endorsement from other humans and so thank you in advance for taking the time.?

  • An endorsement or two of my skills - click that button, tell the world what you’ve seen of me!?

  • To tell one other person what they’ve helped you with professionally - word of mouth is one of the best ways for people to discover me. Often working with a coach is all about rapport and energy and so if you liked the way I made you feel during our conversation, please do pass on the word.?

  • To repost something I’ve written that you agree with! We are all guilty of lurking from time to time but if I post something that really resonates with you, let me know about it by sharing! I’m trying to take more of an active stance on social media and so having this kind of endorsement always means a lot.?

  • Feedback - I love a bit of feedback, whether it’s about a post I’ve written, work we’ve done together or something else. I often provide feedback forms for my professional work but I also love getting DMs, emails or verbal feedback (delivered constructively of course.) This is how I know I’m delivering something useful and that I’m constantly improving.?

And finally, don’t be shy, it can be hard putting yourself out there (me too) and so I’m looking forward to getting to know you all more and having a more meaningful online conversation as a result.?

Here’s to growing meaningfully!?

Still making games and delivering learning, which you can buy, if you like. But no longer wasting my time slogging away in the social media salt mine, to try to coax you into some labyrinthine 'funnel'.

Glad you found my post useful, Nicola, and love your addition to the 'what I would like/can give' genre of post. ??
