Connecting Local to Global OR Global to Local
This update was pending from my end for almost 4 weeks now but then I thought it’s better late than never. Though the event happened in 2023, no harm in starting the new year with some positive closing from the last year.
It was a pleasure to be invited as a speaker and a panelist for the conference, #DigitalBuiltIndia2023, on behalf of?Arcadis. "Digital Built India" was a great platform for knowledge-sharing with various stake holders, industry experts, educational scholars, service providers (Autodesk and Bentley), as well as policy makers come social influencers. Thru their presentations and various panel discussions, we could see a great collaboration, commitment, and a vision for Digital India thru a cutting-edge technology and talent pool available in India.
I presented a session on “Leveraging India for Global Projects’ Engineering Needs – An MNC Perspective”. My session covered, evolution of tools and technology, how the journey began and continued for MNCs in India, drivers for working on international projects, how local talent supports the global projects and how global companies invest in local talent, challenges and doing forward from the current milestones. No need to say how Indian talent pool, especially the Youngistaan is ahead of the curve when it comes to technical and technological domains. It’s a great business model where local and global talent work seamlessly to deliver complicated international projects. Both parties complement each other and in process, rise in the value chain. There are reasons why more than 20 top Engineering Firms as per ENR ranking are operating from India. About 20 years back, when these companies started operating from India, their objective was to improve the bottom line. However, in today’s scenario, these companies need their Indian counterparts to win the projects in the first place. The business model has obviously changed and now, the local talent pool is playing a role from bidding stage to As-Built stage of a project, viz complete life cycle of the project, across the globe. I believe " The journey from expertise on a tool set to enhanced skill set to a changed mindset, has made India the capital of BIM, Engineering and Technology of the world and it’s just a beginning of the new era."
We had a fantastic knowledge sharing session, “India – BIM Capital of the World” with some wonderful personalities in the business. I was one the panelist along with Narendra Deshpande, Dr. Koshy Varghese, and Aniruddha Roy. Our moderator, Sonali Dhopte probed very interesting questions on the subject and all panelist added a different view in their responses. In fact, the panel gave a different dimension to the linear thinking of construction industry and shared their views on how technology and digital infrastructure can take it to the next level. Other sessions were also very engaging, entertaining, and educating for all attendees. My sincere thanks to Sonali Dhopte,?Sunil Joshi, Swaraj Datta Gupta ,?#CDCPIndia for inviting me to the conference and I look forward for their next sessions in different cities in India to take this initiative to the next level.

This conference also connected me to some old ties from my educational institution, COEP to my prior companies, some new friends from local and global companies. Most importantly this conference walked me thru a great memory lane to rewind my career journey thru a vehicle carrying BIM, Tools, Technology, Engineering, Innovation, Improvisation and Sustainability Goods. ?
