Connecting the dots

Connecting the dots

Unlike last week when Meta unveiled new compact AR glasses, or California enacted new AI legislation, this week was relatively calm.

I did not find major AI development this week. Not that there wasn't great news about how AI is transforming specific areas. e.g. I read about how AI is helping archaeologists discover new hidden sites or how a patient had miraculous recovery using AI powered brain implant. AI is doing great things all around. And that's expected news. Like digital era, the AI era will be a journey over decades and we will keep seeing newer applications in unforeseen fields.

While it is interesting to watch how AI makes difference in specific fields, leaders should especially watch how AI itself is evolving and how its own trajectory is changing. That's how you keep on top of change and transformation in AI era. AI itself will evolve. There will be newer and better tools, technologies, strategies, and even constraints (as in regulation, societal concerns). These things will affect how AI should be leveraged and deployed more effectively.

Finding use cases for AI in your own area is business as usual in the AI era. But understanding AI's trajectory is how one can make better decisions. It's the difference between speed and acceleration. Leaders must watch things that accelerate.

On this "No News Friday" I thought it is worthwhile to highlight it!

Steve Jobs famously said, it is hard to connect the dots in future, one can only connect them looking back. When we look back, we can see how the digital era moved us through enterprise data processing, mainframes, personal computers, digital processes, internet and e-commerce, IoT, digital products, and social media. Now it all makes sense.

Just like digital transformation journey kept moving ahead over 30 years, AI will do the same. The way digital found its way in our lives over 30 years, AI will move through its own evolution as it improves human life. Today it is hard to figure out how AI era is going to unfold into various chapters. It is hard to predict which major AI dots will emerge and how they will connect. But trust the process and get into AI without hesitation. Only when we will embrace AI, the dots will emerge. You may not know how to connect them initially. But over time as you connect those dots for your own organization, I hope this newsletter may have helped you just a little! Have a Happy Friday and a nice weekend ahead!
