connecting the dots...

hello—welcome back?to our newsletter!

Company culture is a topic that's hot on everyone's lips at the moment—and with it being linked to employee retention, workplace productivity and attracting better talent, it's easy to see why.

A recent study from?Columbia University?highlighted?some statistics regarding the likelihood of job turnover in organisations.?Those with low company cultures: 48.4% But for those that had a high company culture? 13%

It goes without saying, that having an engaged workforce with a low turnover rate is good for business. On the surface, it means less time lost to recruitment and onboarding. But it goes so much deeper than that. A strong company culture can help your team to feel connected to your organisation, increase employee buy-in and encourages them to want to be there for the long term—and one of the best ways to kick-start that, is by hosting an internal event.

The term "company culture" isn't new. In fact, we're pretty sure it's something you hear regularly—especially at the moment. Because whether it’s planned for or not, a culture will exist within your organisation, and with the events industry often being named as one of the top 5 most stressful industries—it’s definitely better to plan for it!

It's something we did recently with our internal event: connect.

You see, August was the month of team building, connecting, and expanding inside emc3—and September has been much of the same. We are currently in the midst of experiencing record growth, with exciting events coming up for Gong, Google and Stack Overflow over the next few weeks—and since our last update, we have welcomed 12 new members to our team to help us make every moment count at them! In addition to this, our Sales and Marketing Director, Josh King, has been promoted to VP of Growth and we have also been shortlisted for some exciting awards this month—including the MiaList 2022 Team of the Year award, and the individual award for our CEO, Alistair Graham.

but you know how the saying goes...

All work and no play makes <someone> a dull <something>

And we're far from dull,?just ask our clients!

So after reflecting on what was a non-stop few weeks, we brought our global team together in London for our new internal event: connect. An event that was designed to unite our team so that they could connect with each other, and our next steps for the company.?

It’s safe to say that the highlight for us was being together. With so many exciting events happening for our clients simultaneously at the moment, having the entire team together is a rarity. So it was wonderful to gather our colleagues to be able to spend time together and connect... pun intended.

We kicked things off in London, with team-building activities, company updates, and collaborative workshops. And then we travelled over to Port Lympne, in Kent, for an overnight stay filled with BBQs, drinks, and of course a safari!

Internal events, like connect, are vital for your company, helping to develop trust, promote group engagement and maintain great relationships between colleagues. It’s something we both feel strongly about, and have seen the benefits of—which we outline in our latest ebook.

there's a new venue coming to London

Raffles have taken over The Old War Office Building in Whitehall—a building which was once used by Winston Churchill during World War II—for their latest venture.?Beating numerous developers to it, Raffles was chosen due to their ability to preserve the history of the buildings they inhabit and now, the iconic Westminster structure will be known as The OWO Residences and is set to open late this year.

The OWO will feature an eclectic collection of eleven restaurants and bars led by world-class chefs, as well as Churchill’s old room, and a handsome floor-to-ceiling oak-panelled suite which will be available for private dinners.

In our last email, we announced our collaboration with JUST ONE Tree, a non-profit initiative that’s on a mission to combat climate change by planting ‘the right trees in the right place’. They do this by planting forests on land and utilising the waterways by planting in oceans and making the most of their kelp and mangrove planting systems. We were recently informed that, as part of our partnership with JUST ONE Tree, we have now planted 1,746 trees! This is such a significant achievement for us, and we're only a few months into our partnership—so we can’t wait to plant even more!
