Connecting to the CHILD within

Connecting to the CHILD within

“Care about your children. Just bless them instead of worrying, as every child is the little Buddha who helps his parents to grow up.” Read this quote by Buddha sometime back and loved it.

Happy Buddha Poornima to you & your family. Buddha means the 'Enlightened One'. Many a time the conversations we have & the lessons we learn from children can surprise us. A child is closest to the purest form of energy. Those of us who keep the child in us alive are the ones who end up being happy most of the time.

Therefore on this auspicious day let's see how we can connect to the "CHILD" within.

I was at the park yesterday and was watching children play. With summer vacations on , it is a good time for children to interact. I was observing that it was the play area of the park and children were coming in with parents who saw this as an outlet for their boundless energy. There were many things I learned by just watching the children. Surprising how we forget what makes us human as we grow older. Here is what the CHILD as an acronym opened up for me:

?? Communication: When a child walks into the park, s/he does not know who will be there. The moment another one is playing, they move forward to play together. The interest is shown in going closer and watching the fun the other one is having and joining in when asked. The movement closer? was the first indictor of interest.

?? Humility: It's not about who is the leader , but how one can be ready to be flexible. Follow the rules and then suggest yours. There were a couple of children who were playing together when a new kid wanted to join in. Seeing the interest and that she was watching them for sometime, they asked her to join in. Soon they were having more fun when this girl who joined in suggested they add some other rules. They loved it. Clearly she knew it is important to build trust first.

?? Inquisitive: When a new kid joins a set of friends playing, s/he first learns all the rules and is willing to listen. If there is physical fall, and the child cannot get up fast? the rest go to help her to continue the game. S/he is keenly observing and quickly adopting how the rest are together: No adult supervision or advice, it was sheer joy as the kids got to know each other while they played together and were soon calling each other by name. They genuinely want to enjoy , so remembering names is not a task.

?? Laughter: When you watch someone laugh, even if you do not know the reason, you tend to smile. Children at play inspire you to smile. Their chatter, laughter and being in the NOW keeps them alive. Somehow we seem to be losing this in the name of growing up. "Laugh more & the child in you is alive" was my take away.

??Dirtying their hands: The willingness of a child to dirty his /her hands makes it a joy to watch them play. They are all about making the most of the togetherness. With no hesitation they literally love to get their hands dirty. It also brings everyone on a even playing ground which is the best part of getting together. No egos or doubts stopping them.

Jess Lair has said it so powerfully with this quote. “Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded.”?

How would you expand "CHILD" Would love to know.
