Connecting in Chaos. Can I Help You?
I feel fortunate to have this kind of relationship with all of you. This isn’t just another list. I know you’re not here just to click on tips or download ebooks. You know my business, writing for recruiting, is about more than clicks and tactics. It’s about connection.
As the world and headlines spin faster than I can begin to comprehend, I can’t help but want to write to you and connect like we always do. But even that feels a little different right now. I’ve worked remotely for ten years, and I have felt lost trying to focus on anything this week. I’m feeling distracted and buried, but not by work.
As most of you know, speaking was a big part of my ambitions for this year. In fact, I sent an email just like this one a few months back, asking for help to find more speaking opportunities. You helped. You’re the best, really.
Then all this happened. Nine events canceled in one week. More to come, I’m sure.
I’d be lying if I said I’m not anxious - for the world, for my neighbors, for my business. I’m not alone, either. So many other hourly freelancers, contractors, consultants, and small businesses are feeling this. Most have far more to worry about than me. I just want to hug everyone and that’s exactly what you’re *not* supposed to do.
I honestly don’t know what all this means for any of us. I do know a lot of you are wondering what to do now - with your career, or the details like, “what do I do with jobs that are posted?”
I’ll listen. I want to help you.
If you need or want to talk to someone who will listen, I’m here. This isn’t some sales pitch and you don’t need to buy anything. We can talk about anything, really – entrepreneurship, writing, quarantine, puppies, whatever. Just pick a time that works for you here.
There’s this song - Better Than Today, by Rhys Lewis - that goes something like this. “We’re all reaching for something, we’re all craving change, hoping tomorrow is better than today.” I think we are all holding our breath just a little bit, hoping tomorrow is better than today. The whole world is in fear of the future and grieving the loss of “normal,” whatever that meant to them.
You are not alone.
In the words of Heather Bussing and her amazing photography - breathe.
Take care of each other.
