Connecticut AG says P3 for New London pier redevelopment is legal

Connecticut's attorney general gave a legal stamp of approval to a high profile public-private partnership that has come under fire for cost overruns. After an investigation by a state watchdog commission into the contracts behind the Connecticut Port Authority's flagship redevelopment of the State Pier in New London, Attorney General William Tong issued an opinion Tuesday saying the public-private-partnership behind the $255 million project is legal.

Republicans have finalized their roster of subcommittee chairs for the powerful House Ways and Means committee, one of the municipal market's key panels. Pennsylvania Republican Rep. Mike Kelly will lead the newly-renamed tax subcommittee, formerly known as the Select Revenue Measures subcommittee, which writes tax policy and oversees tax collections. The position puts him in the spotlight for any tax legislation that would affect the municipal bond market.

Merger activity among not-for-profit and for-profit hospitals dipped for a fifth consecutive year in 2022, with a higher number of mega-mergers bucking that trend, as the sector deals with operating challenges from inflation, a nursing shortage, and patient volume trends. Announced mergers and acquisitions dropped to 55 last year from 73 in 2021, according to a review published by Ponder & Co.?

The Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority bankruptcy's mediation process has been extended to April 28 by Laura Taylor Swain, the judge in the case. The three-person mediation said while no mediation was currently taking place, it was a good idea to keep open the possibility.?

Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital was awarded $135 million in grant funding by the California Health Facilities Financing Authority that it will use to expand pediatric programs in several counties. The grant was funded by California general obligation bonds authorized in the $1.5 billion Children’s Bond Act of 2018.?
