A Connected World is a Better World
This morning, FedEx released our 2019 Global Citizenship Report (GCR). This year’s report, titled “Multiplying Opportunities,” showcases the multitude of ways we connect people and possibilities around the world.
Here at FedEx, we multiply opportunities and connect the world in an unprecedented, global manner. Our more than 450,000 team members help us serve 220+ countries and territories and reach more than 99 percent of the world’s GDP. Our vast network — which includes 5,000+ hubs and facilities, 678 aircraft and more than 180,000 motorized vehicles — equips FedEx to deliver more than 15 million shipments each day. This massive footprint allows us to provide opportunities and efficiencies to our customers, team members and communities around the globe.
The 2019 GCR covers an exciting year for FedEx.
We were named among the top 10 on Fortune Magazine’s "World’s Most Admired Companies" list, and climbed to number 50 on the Fortune 500 list of U.S. companies.
We invested in the communities in which we live and work with $55.1 million in corporate charitable contributions and 81,976 volunteer hours.
We expanded our retail network to offer our customers flexibility for pick-up, shipping and returns. As a result, 80% of the U.S. population is now within five miles of a FedEx hold location.
And we invested in our people, who are fundamental to our company’s success. We contributed $11 million in tuition assistance and offered more than 24,000 online courses.
All of this, and more, is captured in the 11th annual GCR. Other highlights include:
- A letter from Fred Smith, Chairman and CEO of FedEx Corporation.
- An update on the FedEx Cares goal to invest $200 million in more than 200 communities by 2020 (spoiler alert: we are ahead of plan).
- A glimpse into our investment of workforce development, including our renowned internship program and the FedEx Purple Runway Aviation Scholarship program, which will train our pilots of the future.
- An overview of our sustainability initiatives, including fuel efficiency and aircraft modernization.
- And a deep-dive into the company’s corporate social responsibility strategy, which includes three key areas: Economy, People and Environment.
I am extremely proud to be a part of FedEx, and it is exciting to have a front-row seat to the impact this company makes around the world on a daily basis. We believe a connected world is a better world, and I am energized by the impressive connections and contributions FedEx has made in the last 46 years. I look forward to seeing the difference our company, and our people, make in the years to come.
