The Connected Workspace
Imagine walking out of your door in the morning and heading to work without the baggage and headache of also dragging extra batteries, power cords or even wireless charging devices.
Imagine a wireless world in which every place you go — from the workplace to the coffee shop and restaurants to stadiums and arenas, hotels and airports — offer both free WiFi and wireless power dispersed throughout the entire space. An abundance of wireless charging spots that you could easily connect to, as simply as you connect to WiFi.
You have to admit, that sounds kind of nice, doesn’t it?
We've written quite extensively on the hidden opportunities that exist for brands in deploying smart wireless charging. The data collected from smart wireless charging spots can be leveraged to drive new revenue opportunities, bolster loyalty programs, and importantly, better understand customers.
But what are the hidden benefits to employers who deploy wireless charging in the workplace?
Turning the magnifying glass inward, deploying wireless charging in the workplace also creates an untapped opportunity for enterprises, this time to improve employee productivity and satisfaction.
Designing a seamless workspace experience, using technology, data insights, and personalization has been proven to increase ROI.
Gallup’s 2017 State of the American Workplace report found that, overall, companies that embrace digital workplaces tend to be 21% more profitable.
The same data insights enterprises can use to better understand and engage customers can be a tool for doing the same for employees, and the ROI associated with increased workspace efficiency is extremely trackable, as well as the ability to connect technology so that things work seamlessly for a better experience.
Smart wireless charging spots can be the trigger point for other functions that streamline the workday. Here’s just one example of different technology being connected for a seamless experience in a video conferencing meeting room:
◠Employee walks into a conference room for a meeting, the phone is placed on the wireless charging spot and the employee’s phone is recognized through its unique identifier. This triggers the preferred lighting levels as well as connecting to the video/phone conferencing software that is hooked up to a screen, and the meeting can begin, almost instantly — no fuss, no wires, it all just works..
â— Colleagues in the meeting room enjoy the wireless power spots across the table.
â— Employee leaves, the smart room recognizes the charging session has ended and phone disconnects from the wifi, the VC software disconnects, and lights turn off.
â— The data from the spots could also result in actionable insights for managers on how and when conference rooms are being utilized, for example.
The connected wireless world presents a whole range of opportunities to streamline processes and engage people, whether they be customers or employees.
As large enterprises begin testing and deploying the technology, and unique and interesting use cases emerge, I’ll share their stories over here on our Medium channel. Hope you will follow along on this incredible journey to a completely wireless world.
