Turck MR15-Q80 3D Radar Sensor: Revolutionizing Object Detection and Height Control
The Turck MR15-Q80 3D radar sensor offering advanced object detection and height control for handling goods carriers. Integrated with IO-Link, the MR15-Q80 enables precise, real-time data communication with industrial control systems, ensuring seamless operations across Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and other automated systems.
One of its standout features is the ability to detect and monitor surroundings in three dimensions, which surpasses traditional camera-based systems. By capturing not only distances but also real shapes of objects, the sensor simplifies the handling of load carriers, improving efficiency in material transport and logistics processes. The sensor’s robust radar technology performs reliably even in challenging environments with dust, fog, or poor lighting conditions.
The MR15-Q80’s high precision and 3D object recognition make it ideal for applications requiring both object detection and height control, streamlining operations that involve loading and unloading goods. The sensor’s raw data can be visualized in Turck Automation Suite (TAS), giving operators a comprehensive view of the environment and enabling accurate decision-making.
With IO-Link integration, easy installation, and superior performance in harsh environments, the MR15-Q80 is a critical component for optimizing automated systems and ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient goods handling.

APPLICATION STORY
MR15-Q80 3D radar sensor combines object detection and height control for handling goods carriers
Industrial trucks in logistics – especially automated guided vehicles (AGVs) – require sensor technology for navigation and to prevent collisions and personal injury. LIDAR scanners are normally used here for safety-oriented environment monitoring. However, they only have limited suitability for the vertical monitoring of lift paths on autonomous forklift trucks, as they usually detect a small vertical opening angle. Height control is also not a safety-relevant function.
Radar height control
Turck's MR15-Q80 3D radar scanner is suitable for checking the height of the forklift. It provides the necessary information for all three spatial dimensions and not only detects where obstacles begin but also where they end. This information facilitates precise and safe control of the lifting movement. The data can also be used to prevent damage to vehicles, goods and system elements. Camera systems, which are frequently used for these tasks, are usually more complex and expensive to commission.?
