Connect, Learn, Innovate: Up to GATE Day 2 Workshops for Smart Cities, Intelligent Government and Digital Health

The 21st of November, the official Day 2 of “Up to GATE: Technology, Big Data & Beyond – 5 Years of Innovation” offers an in-depth look at the innovative pathways shaping urban development, digital health, and resilience against disinformation, areas in which GATE researcher`s have been working in for the past 5 years.

From hands-on experiences in Urban Digital Twin technology trough the multidisciplinary of innovation in the field of Digital Health to collaborative insights into combating disinformation, each workshop is designed to foster skill-building, knowledge-sharing, and actionable insights.

Workshop 1 - HANDS-ON WORKSHOP ON TECHNOLOGIES, TOOLS AND PLATFORMS FOR URBAN DIGITAL TWIN DEVELOPMENT

Urban Digital Twins (UDTs) are transforming city planning and management by enabling data-driven, resilient urban growth. This workshop is structured to give urban planners, engineers, and data scientists a hands-on introduction to building UDTs. Participants will explore the tools and standards needed to model, analyze, and visualize city data, learning how UDTs support informed decision-making and the development of smart communities.

Workshop 2: URBAN DIGITAL TWINS: CITIES JOURNEYS FROM DATA TO DECISION INTELLIGENCE

This workshop delves into practical applications of UDTs, focusing on sustainable urban development. Through real-world case studies, we’ll examine how UDTs are used to address challenges from climate resilience to urban mobility. Key discussion points include:

Liveable Urban Spaces: Insights on creating walkable, pedestrian-friendly cities.

Enhancing Mobility: Strategies for eco-friendly transport solutions.

Sustainability: Leveraging UDTs to promote eco-friendly initiatives and combat climate change.

By showcasing UDTs in action, this workshop helps shape cities equipped to face tomorrow’s challenges.

Workshop 3: INTELLIGENT GOVERNMENT & DISINFORMATION – TOOLS, RESOURCES, AND TRENDS IN ELECTIONS

This three-part workshop is tailored for policymakers, media professionals, and tech experts interested in safeguarding democratic integrity:

Part 1: Focuses on language-specific resources and tools for detecting disinformation.

Part 2: Examines the impact of disinformation on upcoming national and European elections.

Part 3: Addresses the implementation of the EU Code of Practice on Disinformation and local strategies for moderation.

By sharing best practices and technologies, this workshop empowers stakeholders to combat misinformation effectively within Bulgarian and EU contexts.

Workshop 4: DIGITAL HEALTH: DIAGNOSTIC & PROGNOSTIC ALGORITHMS, DATA, PLATFORMS, AND TOOLS

This workshop addresses the digital transformation of healthcare through two complementary tracks:

Track 1: EU's vision for digital health advancements in Bulgaria, featuring GATE’s multidisciplinary work in early Alzheimer’s diagnosis within the VELES project.

Track 2: Highlights innovations in data processing and hybrid learning algorithms, emphasizing continuous, adaptive patient monitoring.

Attendees will gain valuable knowledge about digital health advancements, data collection, and intelligent health algorithms, which together pave the way for improved patient care.

Workshop 5: GATE LABS FOR EXCELLENCE – DRIVING SCIENTIFIC INNOVATION AND NEXT-GEN BUSINESS MODELS

This interactive session is designed to showcase the power and potential of GATE Labs as a bridge between academia and industry. Attendees will learn how GATE's state-of-the-art equipment and services enable cutting-edge scientific research and business transformation.
