Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Illinois), who serves as Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy, sent?letters?to two companies that manufacture or sell synthetic nicotine products, requesting information about the companies and their sale of these products.?One letter was sent to Next Generation Labs LLC, a manufacturer of synthetic nicotine.?A second letter was sent to Puff Bar, a manufacturer of disposable vaping devices.?
In 2020, FDA issued a market denial order, forcing Puff Bar to remove its products made with tobacco-derived nicotine from the market.?Subsequently, Puff Bar made a public announcement that it would only sell its products with synthetic nicotine.
What is interesting is the difference in tone of the two letters sent.?The letter to Next Generation Labs seeks the company's assistance by providing information on synthetic nicotine and products in the market using such nicotine.?However, in the letter to Puff Bar the Congressman takes a very different tone, calling the company "vile" and claiming they are "enriching" themselves "by poisoning children."?He also demands the company owners sit for a recorded interview before the subcommittee.
