If you are a true Christian, you have a duty to (1) love everyone and (2) to pray for our leaders. Irrespective of who we supported before elections and the views they stand for; we must sincerely pray for our leaders. We cannot choose the scripture to believe and obey.
1 Timothy 2:1-3 - I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior.
While we have a duty as Christians to condemn evil in our society – racism, tribalism, murder, corruption etc – we must always remember that ALL leadership is instituted by God – either by His permissive or perfect will - both those you love and those you don’t like, they’re all anointed to lead for whatever reason in the sovereign will and purposes of God. No leadership surprises God.
Romans 13:1 – Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.
While we disagree with certain things some leaders do especially those who impoverish their nations, we still have a duty to pray for them even as we condemn societal evils. And we must respect everyone’s political view. Condemning people because of their political opinion is one of the highest forms of ignorance. If we all read from the same script, why conduct such expensive elections?
