A force in the music business along with his triplet brothers Sam and Jamaal, Stax Music Academy graduate?Christoper Franklin (2018) played bass on the new Changing Your Story LP by gospel artist Jekalyn Carr, which was nominated this year for a GRAMMY Award Best Gospel Album.
DEREK RENFROE
Having toured with artists such as Sabrina Claudio, Mills, Felly, and, most recently, worked in 2021 as music director for this year's seven-time GRAMMY nominee, pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo, Stax Music Academy graduate Derek Renfroe (2013) also assistant music directed and mix assisted the film Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles by Billie Eilish. Among her seven GRAMMY nods this year, it is nominated for Best Music Film.
STEVE CROPPER
Stax icon Steve Cropper, who celebrated his 80th birthday earlier this year and shows no signs of resting on his world-famous laurels, received a GRAMMY nomination this year for Best Contemporary Blues Album for his hot, new?Fire It Up album.
CARLA THOMAS
The Queen of Memphis Soul and Stax legend Carla Thomas, winner of this year's Americana Music Association Lifetime Achievement Award and the Tennessee Governor's Arts Award, added her soulful vocals to Tennessee-born artist Valerie June's song "Call Me A Fool," which received a GRAMMY nomination this year for Best American Roots Song.?
