A Childhood Rooted in Determination:

Growing up, Greg witnessed firsthand the limitations and injustices that confined individuals to a life tied to the farm. However, excellent teachers in his segregated school instilled in him the belief that education held the key to unlocking a brighter future. Determined to break free from the constraints of his circumstances, Greg embraced mathematics, science, and his talent for football. It was his athletic prowess that secured him a scholarship to Virginia Union University , ultimately providing him with an opportunity to pursue higher education.

Forging a Path in STEM:

While his initial ambitions did not center around space exploration, Greg’s path changed after he transferred to Howard University . Inspired by friends who interned at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center , he found himself captivated by the world of NASA. Once he walked through the gates of the space agency, he was bitten by the bug of scientific discovery. Robinson's dedication, combined with his aptitude for mathematics and engineering, propelled his leadership of numerous spaceflight and shuttle missions. His work as the Deputy Center Director at NASA's John H. Glenn Research Center and NASA Deputy Chief Engineer showcased his ability to lead and contribute to cutting-edge projects.

Applying Lessons Learned:

Greg’s childhood experiences, particularly the process of school desegregation, profoundly influenced his approach to work and collaboration. Through this transformative period, he learned the value of collaborating with individuals from different backgrounds. Robinson emphasizes that not everyone who looks different is adversarial; in fact, there is much to be gained from finding common ground and recognizing shared goals. The capstone to Gregory Robinson 's 30+ year NASA career was his pivotal role in the James Webb Space Telescope project. Tasked with bringing the ambitious project back on track after years of setbacks and delays, Robinson's leadership and unwavering belief in the telescope's success were instrumental in its triumphant launch in December 2021. Despite the challenges faced, Robinson never doubted the outcome, and his confidence resonated with the team.
