Recently Cleveland Public Power (CPP) management started the work day celebrating the accomplishments of three new Journeymen Lineworkers – Kevin Aponte, Jaymontra Brown, and Damien Plaud along with Journeyman Cable Splicer Desmond Colin! The journey for these men started as new high school graduates seekinga career, and an opportunity to provide for their families.

After several years, they are now members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 39. Acknowledging the hard work and perseverance, CPP Commissioner Ammon Danielson said, “Six plus years, this group has been working to reach this point. Top Out, get journeyman status. It is important. It is a huge achievement. It’s more time, more investment, I think than most people put into, say going to college.”

While celebrating the new journeymen he also wanted to recognize the efforts of the men and women who put in the work on a daily basis. He said, “Simply put, every day, every job that you do is important. I definitely want to acknowledge the line workers that have topped out, but also everyone here – you have an impact.”

Illustrating his thoughts, Danielson highlighted the diligence of workers as they work to run cable down E. 140th Street to ensure successful operations for a customer, and the perseverance shown during the worst storm CPP has experienced. Recalling the many jobs, he highlighted line workers, cable splicers, tree trimmers, laborers and construction crews showing how each individuals work is necessary and connected.

Assistant Commissioner Bernie Jackson also thanked the men and women gathered, “We just want to thank you for what you do. We don’t always get a chance to just tell you, but today we want to just tell you, good job.”

The new journeymen received commemorative plaques to recognize their accomplishment.
