The ConfigMgr 2207 release is here!

The Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager 2207 release includes three capabilities that improve the IT admin experience, including a feature that helps to better manage hybrid workplace environments, more dark theme capabilities, and improvements to security roles. These capabilities were previously available only in pre-release and are now ready for general use. You can review the complete documentation What's new in version 2207 of Configuration Manager current branch or read the blog post Update 2207 for Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager current branch is now available for more information. As always, please share comments, questions, and feedback by responding back on this post!

Simplifying your Hybrid Workplace Management

As the world has shifted to hybrid work, IT admins need flexible yet simple management solutions for client management for when workers are in office and working remote. In 2207, you can now add options using PowerShell to include and prefer cloud management gateway (CMG) management points for the default site boundary group. When a site is set up, there's a default site boundary group created for each site and all the clients are mapped to it unless they're assigned to a custom boundary group.

This addition will reduce the risk of common client configuration issues. You will no longer need to create a custom boundary group and risk forgetting to add the management point to that boundary group. Your clients will get the appropriate policy and service location information and receive configuration data at an appropriate management point, which doesn’t have to be near the office. You can read more about this capability in What's new in version 2207 of Configuration Manager current branch.

Dark Mode is here!

When you’re concentrating closely on your work and focused on a screen day-in and day-out, everything that can be done to enhance visual ergonomics while reducing eye strain is a great productivity improvement for IT Admins. In Technical preview 2203 - Configuration Manager | Microsoft Docs, we introduced dark theme and have been adding more capabilities each release. I know bringing in this capability has been something you’ve asked for over the years. We’re excited to bring additional dark theme feature enhancements in the future.

Intune role-based access control (RBAC) support for Configuration Manager Admin tasks

The Microsoft Endpoint Manager admin center unifies tasks performed on devices managed by Microsoft Intune and Configuration Manager. The Intune admin needs to have the appropriate Configuration Manager controls to be successful at making user changes. In this Configuration Manager release, combined with an upcoming Intune release, we’re introducing Configuration Manager specific RBAC controls in the Microsoft Endpoint Manager admin center, eliminating the need to provision Intune admins in Configuration Manager.

The following screenshot shares where you edit the custom RBAC role to manage Configuration Manager devices within Intune:

The Intune RBAC can be enabled as shown in the screen shot below:

More information regarding this functionality will be published soon as the Intune components release. Look for an upcoming story by Danny Guillory to be published in IT Pro TechCommunity channel for additional details.
