Be Confident Enough to Break Rules

Hi,

You’re going to think:

Wow, there are A LOT of rules in public speaking!

For instance, you’ve got to open with a bang…

Enumerate everything in threes…

Be comfortable with pregnant pauses…

And so on, and so forth…

Or else, you won’t get the results you expect from these presentations!

Scary, right?

Well, today, I just want to clarify something:

All those rules?

They’re not set in stone.

None of them are!

In fact, I only strictly teach them to speakers who are not quite confident in their skills yet – those who are still learning the ropes.

See, those rules and guidelines are really helpful for them because it teaches them the easiest yet most effective way to put together a presentation.

After all, they might have given a presentation only once or twice before…

Or not at all!

Those rules help give them confidence that what they’re doing is right.

And getting to that point is important.

Because once you gain enough confidence to do your presentations your own way…

Then you can break or reinvent all those rules the best way you see fit.

You can even come up with your own rules that you’ll pass on to the rest of your team.

So, if you’ve only just begun taking public speaking engagements…

I suggest you learn all the rules first.

Learn them.

Apply them.

Master them.

Then, practice your presentations until you’re completely satisfied with them.

I guarantee you—doing all these things will help you become a pretty good public speaker.

And once you get to that point…

That’s when you can ditch the rules and make your presentations 100% you.
