Confidence in what we hope for
Scripture: Hebrews 11:1 (NIV) - "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see."
Sometimes, I wonder if people read these devotionals. I write them using ChatGPT, hoping they help others and myself find clarity and encouragement. There are moments when I question why I’m doing this—whether it’s an outward expression or profession of faith, especially when I have my own doubts. Yet, I suppose this is part of life, whether it’s in religion, work, family, or any other aspect. We need hope and faith to navigate these uncertainties.
Devotional:
There are times when my faith feels strong and unwavering, but there are also moments when doubt creeps in, making me question the very foundation of my beliefs. This internal conflict is a familiar experience for many of us. We strive to balance our faith with the challenges and distractions of everyday life, and in doing so, we often find ourselves grappling with uncertainty.
Writing these devotionals is an exercise in hope and faith. While I hope they provide solace and inspiration to others, they also serve as a means for me to reflect on my own spiritual journey. Hebrews 11:1 reminds us, "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." This verse encourages us to hold onto our faith, even when we can’t see the full picture.
In our daily lives, whether it’s in our religious practices, work, family, or personal endeavors, we encounter situations that test our faith and resilience. Doubts can arise, making us question our purpose and the reasons behind our actions. But it is precisely in these moments of doubt that we need to anchor ourselves in hope and faith.
Faith in God means trusting in His plans, even when we don’t understand them fully. It means believing that there is a greater purpose behind our struggles and uncertainties. Romans 8:28 assures us, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." This promise gives us the strength to persevere, knowing that God is at work in our lives, even amidst our doubts.

Moreover, hope is the light that guides us through the darkest times. It’s the belief that better days are ahead and that our current struggles are not the end of our story. Jeremiah 29:11 offers a powerful reminder of this hope: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
As we navigate the complexities of life, let’s hold onto our faith and hope. Let’s remember that it’s okay to have doubts and uncertainties, but let’s not let them overshadow the promise of God’s unwavering love and purpose for us. By continuing to seek God and trust in His plans, we can find the strength to face each day with confidence and assurance.
Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for being our source of hope and faith amidst life's uncertainties. Help us to trust in Your plans and hold onto the promises of Your Word, even when we face doubts and challenges. Strengthen our faith and renew our hope each day, so that we may find peace and purpose in Your presence. Guide us in our journey, and let our lives reflect Your love and grace. In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.
Reflection:
Reflect on the areas in your life where you experience doubt and uncertainty. How can you cultivate hope and faith in these situations? What steps can you take to deepen your trust in God’s plans and find assurance in His promises?
