Confidence Starts Here: Are You Living Your Values?
The year is in full swing, and if you’re like most of us, your calendar is already doing gymnastics. Between goal-setting meetings and day-to-day chaos, let me ask you something: How confident are you feeling? Not about achieving your goals, but about who you are, your authentic self—every day.
If you’ve been here before, you know this newsletter exists to make confidence easy ??—bite-sized tips, real-life examples, and tiny daily actions to get you to that version of yourself. And today, we’re cutting straight to the heart of it.
This edition is all about a fundamental truth: You can’t fake true confidence—it starts with living your values.
Now, don’t roll your eyes! I’m not about to give you a TED Talk on self-discovery. But I am going to get real with you: Confidence isn’t about “looking the part” or mastering your power pose (although we love a good power pose).
?? At it’s core, it’s about knowing who you are and aligning your actions with what truly matters to you.
?So, how do you actually do this while juggling work deadlines, family obligations, and the never-ending quest for balance?
?? Here’s the playbook:
1. Get Crystal Clear on Your Values
Let’s start with the basics: What matters most to you? If your brain just went blank, don’t worry—that’s normal. It's a big question!
Think about moments when you’ve felt proud, fulfilled, or like you were exactly where you were meant to be. What values were driving you?
For me, one of my values is – let’s called it ‘pragmatism’ ??. If you’ve worked with me or know me personally, you know I DO stuff, get stuff DONE, always ready to get my hands dirty for what matters and makes me happy. That’s also why my coaching or trainings are ALWAYS action oriented. If you or I can’t act on it, I don’t want it. I don’t value it (as much). But that’s just me and it works for me!
I’ve always been like that – so eventually I noticed the pattern.
On the other hand, to this pragmatism lays perfectionism. I don’t need perfect, but I NEED different (from before starting to act). Tuning in with what you don’t like (to see in yourself or other people for example), can also point you in the right direction towards finding your values.
??Quick Exercise: Take five minutes (yes, five—you’ve got this) and write down three values that feel true to you. Don’t overthink it. These are your compass.
2. Gut-Check Your Actions
Here’s the uncomfortable truth: If your actions don’t align with your values, your confidence will always feel like it’s on shaky ground. Take a look at how you’re spending your time or do you like walking on eggshells? Does it reflect what matters to you? If not, it’s time to make some changes.
?? Pro Tip: Start small. Pick one value this week—maybe it’s courage, creativity, or connection—and choose one action to align with it. Feel into it. Baby steps add up.
3. Say “No” Like a Pro
Living your values means saying no to things (and people) that don’t align with them. Yes, it’s hard. Yes, people might look at you funny. Do it anyway. Why? Because every “yes” that doesn’t serve your values chips away at your confidence. You will start seeing that in every “No” lays a “Yes” to yourself. How beautiful is that?!
??? Script It Out: Next time someone asks you to take on just one more thing, try this: “I’d love to help, but that’s not something I can take on right now.” Polite, firm, and no over-explaining.
4. Celebrate Your Wins (Even the Small Ones)
We’re all about progress, not perfection. Did you align your actions with your values today? ?? (high five). Did you catch yourself veering off course and steer back? That’s a win too! ??
Confidence comes from consistency, not from nailing it 100% of the time.
Living your values isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth it. When you align who you are with how you show up, confidence stops being a performance and becomes your reality.
And that’s the kind of confidence no one can take away. I am sooo rooting for you!
You’ve got this—and if you don’t, well, it’s time to get to work. I’ll walk with you! ??
ALSO, don’t miss next month’s issue, where we’ll dive into the art of ASSERTIVE COMMUNICATION (my all-time favorite - yeahiii)—because knowing your values is one thing, but speaking up for them? That’s where the real magic happens. ??????
Warmly and confidently,
P.S. Seriously, what are your top 3 values? Hit reply and share—I’m genuinely curious! ?
